New mural comes to the cityThe City of Ville Platte continues to beautify its downtown area as it erects an addition to its “Murals on Main Street” project. The new mural, “Les Festivals de la Ville Platte,” showcases the city’s main festivals and tourist attractions - The Louisiana Cotton Festival, the Tournoi de la Ville Platte, and The Smoked Meat Festival. It will be displayed at 129 East Main Street on the building site donated by Home Health Care 2000 of Ville Platte. The mural is sponsored by the City of Ville Platte and is funded by a grant from the Acadiana Arts Council and the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
New lodges opening at Chicot State Park
The Louisiana Office of State Parks is opening two new deluxe lodges at Chicot State Park in Ville Platte that will be available for overnight accommodations beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 3. “Chicot State Park is one of our most popular parks, with over 150,000 visitors annually,” said Dr. Stuart Johnson, assistant secretary for the Office of State Parks. “Needless to say, overnight facilities there stay booked up. This addition to the park will benefit visitors for many years to come.”
Located on the North Landing of the park, the lodges will sleep up to 14 people for $160 per night (from October to March) and $180 per night on weekends from April to September. Each lodge includes a full kitchen, living room, dining area and covered porch area. Included in the $450,000 project is a new pavilion at the north camping loop. The North Landing also features a 400-foot fishing pier over Chicot Lake, a boat launch and a playground.
Chicot State Park is located six miles north of Ville Platte on La. 3042 and covers over 6,000 acres of rolling hills with a 2,000-acre reservoir. The park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
